Bloemenmarkt Flower Market

The world’s only floating flower market, the Bloemenmarkt is on a row of barges situated on Singel between Muntplein and Koningsplein. One of the main flower suppliers to the city, the Bloemenmarkt is not only a great place for sightseeing, it’s a great place to pick up some of the Netherlands’ famous tulip bulbs to take home, as well as offering a selection of the city’s ever-present souvenir shops. An important thing to bear in mind is that there are strict restrictions on bringing live plants to other countries. The vendors in the market know this, however, and can set you up with packages of bulbs that have the necessary paperwork for transporting them back to your home country.

De Zotte

Tucked on a side street near the Melkweg concert hall, De Zotte (“The Crazy”) is a tiny little Belgian bar that serves amazing Belgian steaks and frites with a range of sauces. And while the food is good (really, really good!), the true star of the space is De Zotte’s beer menu, which features well over 100 varieties of Belgian beers.

If you’re only going for drinks, be sure to eat in advance. With some beers coming in at around 12%, it’s easy to get yourself in trouble as you peruse the beer list! (Steaks €17.50, Beer from around € on up).
